John Krasinski Set to Break Harrison Ford Movie Record

Jack Ryan: Ghost War could see John Krasinski breaking a franchise record currently held by Harrison Ford. Despite having significantly fewer films than James Bond, the Jack Ryan franchise has featured many actors portraying Tom Clancy’s character. The first was Alec Baldwin, followed by Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine.

John Krasinski has taken on the role for all four seasons of Prime’s Jack Ryan series. It was expected that Krasinski’s tenure as the CIA agent would conclude with the final season, but the upcoming Jack Ryan: Ghost War movie indicates otherwise.

A Movie Franchise Could See John Krasinski Breaking Harrison Ford’s Two-Movie Streak As Jack Ryan

Anticipation for Ghost War is building ahead of its May 20, 2026 debut, and it will almost certainly be a hit for Prime. If successful, Jack Ryan could transition into a movie franchise, allowing Krasinski to return for sequels. Krasinski could even surpass Harrison Ford’s Jack Ryan record by playing the role more than twice.

Ford took over the role from Baldwin and starred in Patriot Games and 1994’s Clear and Present Danger. He was set to reprise his role in The Sum of All Fears, but withdrew due to dissatisfaction with the screenplay. This led Paramount to cast Ben Affleck as Ryan instead.

The frequent recasting of Ryan prevented most actors (aside from Ford) from leaving a significant mark on the character. With the series concluded, Krasinski now has a solid interpretation of Ryan, giving him an advantage moving into Ghost War. A film series could also significantly develop the character.

For example, future installments could feature Ryan teaming up with John Clark (Michael B. Jordan) from Without Remorse. He might even become the President of the United States, as he does in Clancy’s later novels. There are numerous directions future films could take, making it plausible for Krasinski to lead at least three Jack Ryan movies.

Despite his notable performance in Michael Bay’s war film 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, many still viewed Krasinski as Jim from The Office when he began playing Jack Ryan. It can be argued that Ryan is now Krasinski’s defining role, and this trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Fans of Jack Ryan may still associate Ford with the character, but given that Krasinski has portrayed him for eight years and counting, that perception may change. He has played the character in 30 episodes and a movie, with much more to explore.

The success of Jack Ryan: Ghost War will ultimately determine this trajectory. It’s worth noting that Without Remorse was intended to launch its own movie franchise but has since faded into obscurity. If the new film fails to generate excitement about Krasinski’s future adventures as Jack Ryan, then Ghost War could end up being just another standalone film.
