Josh Freese has announced that he is being replaced as the drummer for Foo Fighters. This comes after he joined the band in 2023 following the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins. Freese has been actively performing with the band during their tour to promote the album But Here We Are, showcasing his drumming talents. Notably, he also participated in both tribute concerts honoring Taylor Hawkins, which solidified his connection with the band before officially taking on the role of touring drummer.
During the production of the But Here We Are studio album, Dave Grohl took on the drumming responsibilities, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to the band’s music.
Josh Freese Shares Insightful Reflections on His Departure from Foo Fighters
In a heartfelt message posted on his Instagram account, Josh Freese disclosed his exit from the Foo Fighters. He informed fans that he received a call from the band on Monday, May 12, revealing their decision to go in a different direction regarding their drumming lineup.
Freese expressed his surprise at this unexpected turn of events but also conveyed his gratitude for the experiences he shared with the band during his tenure. His full statement captures his mixed feelings:
The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to inform me they’ve chosen “to go in a different direction with their drummer.” No reason was given. 🙁 Regardless, I truly enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever decisions they believe are best for the band. In my 40 years of professional drumming, I have never been let go from a band, so while I’m not angry, I am a bit shocked and disappointed. But as most of you know, I’ve always worked as a freelancer and transitioned between bands, so I’m okay. Stay tuned for my “Top 10 Possible Reasons Josh Got Booted From the Foo Fighters” list.
