Jujutsu Kaisen has launched a captivating new series of episodes to lead the Winter 2026 anime season, and despite high expectations, the show delivered an impressive start for the Culling Game Arc. With Kenjaku’s lethal plan at its core, building upon the Shibuya Incident from season 2, the mass awakening of new sorcerers has created an ideal pool of participants for the Culling Game.
For those who were caught off guard by the brief insights into Jujutsu Kaisen’s rules for the Culling Game, clarity emerges as battles unfold. While its true nature remains partially unexplored, it has established a thrilling death game and the next iconic tournament arc in shonen anime. As the Culling Game progresses in Jujutsu Kaisen beyond season 3, and players introduce new rules as it evolves, it is essential to examine the rules that are currently in place.
All Players in the Culling Game Must Join a Colony
The participants in the Culling Game are referred to as Players, encompassing all awakened sorcerers and those designated by Kenjaku as vessels or infused with a cursed technique, as revealed at the conclusion of the Shibuya Incident arc. Ten colonies have been established across Japan, each linked by a barrier that isolates those within.
Rule 1. After awakening their cursed technique, players must go to a colony of their choice within 19 days and pledge their participation in the culling game.
The only region without a colony is Hokkaido due to Tengen’s barrier. Therefore, Rule 1 stipulates that anyone possessing a cursed technique must prepare; within 19 days of awakening on the night of October 31st, they must enter one of the ten colonies to engage in the Culling Game. This includes Megumi Fushiguro’s sister, Tsumiki.
The Rules of the Culling Game Must Not Be Broken
The consequence for failing to meet the 19-day deadline is that players will have their cursed techniques revoked. While this may not seem severe to those non-sorcerers who have just been awakened by Kenjaku, losing cursed techniques goes far beyond merely being a sorcerer or not.
Rule 2. Players breaching the first rule shall be stripped of their technique.
Cursed techniques are fundamentally linked to the brain and soul of their users, and tampering with them will effectively incapacitate them. This means that those who refuse to participate or change their minds and wish to withdraw during the Culling Game will suffer irreversible damage and will inevitably perish.
Joining a Colony Automatically Turns Individuals into Players in Jujutsu Kaisen
Non-participants become players upon crossing the barrier and are regarded as having agreed to participate in the Culling Game. This applies regardless of whether they are sorcerers or not. However, it only takes effect for those who enter the barrier willingly.
Rule 3. Non-participants shall become players upon entering a colony, and their entry shall be considered as pledging to participate in the culling game.
Non-sorcerers who were already inside the colony when the barrier was established aren’t trapped and can leave freely. However, those humans who enter without considering the risks are indeed confined within the colony and regarded as players, meaning they can be eliminated for points and contribute to enhancing cursed energy within the barrier.
