K-Pop Rookie of the Month: ARrC Featured in Billboard (July)

Introducing ARrC, the innovative multinational K-pop group that is reshaping the landscape of global pop music. Comprising seven talented members from Korea, the United States, Japan, Vietnam, and Brazil, ARrC is not merely transcending borders; they are actively fostering connections across cultures. The name ARrC stands for “Always Remember the real Connection,” and in the short span of just one year since their debut in August 2024, they have consistently delivered on this promise with a series of EPs that beautifully merge sonic experimentation with genuine emotion.

“We don’t aim to fit in — we remain authentic and connect on a deeper level. That’s the essence of what an ARrC connection embodies,” stated the group’s leader, HYUNMIN.

Their inaugural EP ‘AR^C’ set a vibrant tone with the hit track “S&S (sour and sweet),” which is a dynamic blend of hyper pop and hood pop-influenced electric hip-hop. Following this, their second EP, ‘nu kidz: out the box,’ pushed boundaries further. Featuring the title track “nu kidz,” infused with classic boom bap vibes, this release unveiled another dimension of ARrC’s audacious, genre-blurring identity. Its accompanying music video rapidly gained over 10 million views on YouTube within just two weeks, igniting global excitement from fans eager for fresh sounds. ARrC stands not only as a musical group but as a movement grounded in authenticity, individuality, and cross-cultural connection.

The meteoric rise of ARrC is fueled not only by their captivating music but also by their steadfast dedication to meaningful connection. Recently, the multinational group made headlines in Indonesia by featuring on top shows like Trans TV’s Brownis and SCTV’s Inbox Nite, where they engaged directly with fans in multiple languages, demonstrating that for ARrC, genuine communication extends far beyond the stage.

Within less than a year of their debut, ARrC secured a prestigious spot on the official lineup for KCON JAPAN 2025 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Over three exhilarating days, including the M Countdown pre-show, main stage, and dance showcases, ARrC showcased their talent alongside some of the titans of K-pop, delivering electrifying performances that firmly established their status as rising stars to watch.

Their most recent EP ‘HOPE’ was released on July 16, featuring the title track “awesome”—a spirited anthem that resonates with the essence of Gen Z, offering uplifting beats and unfiltered emotions. “Our wish is that wherever and whenever, our music serves as a small source of comfort for someone,” the group expressed. With every endeavor, ARrC continues to carve out its distinctive path in K-pop, defined by authenticity, emotional depth, and a global perspective.

In the following interview, the members of ARrC delve into their creative philosophies, the chemistry that binds them as a team, and the promising road ahead.

What significance does your new mini-album ‘HOPE,’ released on July 16, hold for ARrC? What message were you aiming to convey through it?

JIBEEN: With our third mini-album ‘HOPE’, we aimed to discuss a type of hope that transcends mere perfection and embodies the emotions that flourish through perseverance. As Gen Z, we navigate a rapidly changing world, where expectations often lead to disappointment. Yet, we have come to view despair not merely as darkness but as an integral part of a process we endure in our uniquely bittersweet manner. Even in moments when everything appears to be falling apart, we want our music to remain buoyant and empowering. This album is not simply about conventional comfort or hope; it aims to encapsulate the rhythm of our generation’s reality—a form of hope that asserts, “we keep moving forward, no matter what.” If listeners find that ARrC’s identity has become clearer through this album, then we have accomplished our goal.

Which aspects of the new album received the most attention during production? Are there particular tracks or performance moments you hope fans will notice?

CHOI HAN: One performance element I’m eager for fans to focus on is the “Ddabong Dance” from our title track “awesome.” This move, where we raise our arms and give a large thumbs-up, might seem simple, but it encapsulates the energy and message we wish to convey with this song—that “despite any hardships you face, everything will be alright.” This choreography symbolizes the spirit of shaking off daily misfortunes with humor and resilience. If fans join us in doing the “Ddabong!” I believe that the sense of connection on stage will amplify even further. It’s a performance that embodies a cheer made in the ARrC style—not too heavy, yet not too light—and I sincerely hope fans enjoy participating.

Are there any artists you dream of collaborating with in the future? Why?

DOHA: I would love to collaborate with DEAN. His music, deeply rooted in R&B, is both stylish and emotionally rich—he possesses a unique ability to express feelings through sound. I believe that this sensitivity would meld beautifully with the vibe of ARrC. Especially on tracks like “vitamin I,” which blend emotional depth with intricate soundscapes, his vocal contributions would add a new dimension. I’m also excited about the prospect of discussing production with him—just the thought of that collaboration fills me with anticipation.

For you, what would be an ideal collaboration in the future?

ANDY: I dream of collaborating with the girl group Billlie. Since my trainee days, I have admired how uniquely they weave stories—not just through their music, but also through their performances and expressions. Each member of Billlie has such a strong individual identity, and when they unite as seven, their chemistry truly shines. In this aspect, I see a similarity between them and ARrC, and they have become role models for me. The way they captivate audiences with their distinct energy and atmosphere on stage is something I genuinely admire. A collaboration would undoubtedly foster growth for both groups musically and performance-wise, and I believe the synergy between ARrC and Billlie’s unique characteristics could lead to something incredibly exciting.

What vision do you have for ARrC five years from now?

JIBEEN: Even after five years, I hope we remain a team that trusts and supports one another while continuing to relish our time on stage together. The greatest strength of ARrC lies in our chemistry, and I aspire for that bond to deepen over time. I envision us becoming a group that genuinely understands each other’s strengths and emotions, enabling everything we do on stage to feel effortless and natural. Naturally, we aim to expand musically, perform on larger stages, and connect with fans in more countries—but at the core of it all, I hope we maintain the same mindset and energy that we possess now.

As you approach your first anniversary, what are your goals collectively and individually?

HYUNMIN: My goal for ARrC is straightforward—I want people to always anticipate something new and unique from us. Whether it’s a performance or a piece of content, I hope everything we create carries our distinct ARrC signature. On a personal level, I would love to explore more creative outlets. I took my first step with songwriting on this album, and someday I’d like to share my own stories through music. My aspiration is to grow not only as a performer but also as a creator.

If you could encapsulate ARrC in a single word, what would it be?

ANDY: I would choose “ARrC-way”—our own unique path. We are a team that embraces experimentation across various genres and continuously seeks new challenges. Rather than following trends, we forge our own direction. That’s what defines us as ARrC.

CHOI HAN: For me, the word is “awesome.” Just like the title of our latest track, ARrC has a remarkable ability to transform everyday moments into something special. Through genuine emotions and original music, we reveal how the extraordinary can emerge from the ordinary. “Awesome” represents our essence—and it’s also the message we wish to convey to our fans.

What specific role do you play in the group, and what do you perceive as your personal strengths?

DOHA: As the main vocalist, my role is to convey emotions as authentically and clearly as possible through my singing. I strive to fully comprehend the story and feelings embedded within the lyrics and focus on delivering that sincerity to our fans during performances. Additionally, I aim to provide vocal stability that allows all of our members’ distinct energies to come together for a polished performance.

HYUNMIN: As the leader of the group, I often take the lead in decision-making or when we need to establish direction. I prioritize ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard and foster balance among us. Given that we are a multinational team, I believe one of my strengths lies in helping us understand and harmonize our differences. I also tend to be the mood-maker—whether we’re in the practice room or backstage, I love uplifting the energy when things get quiet. I think I’ve contributed to keeping the team relaxed and smiling, especially in challenging moments.

What nickname would you assign to another member, and why?

KIEN: I’d call ANDY “Di-An.” He humorously refers to me as “An-Ki,” so I thought it would be amusing to flip it around. What started as a playful wordplay has evolved into our little inside joke—an affectionate way of expressing our bond.

ANDY: I often call RIOTO “RIOKO.” Initially, it was just a silly nickname, but it ended up sticking because it’s catchy and sounds quite cute. Now it feels like a special name that only I use for him.

What song are you currently enjoying the most these days?

JIBEEN: Recently, I’ve been listening to Way Ched’s “Bad Idea” on repeat. Its emotional melody layered over a stylish beat always puts me in a contemplative mood. I especially love listening to it at night with my headphones on—it’s perfect for that vibe.

CHOI HAN: Lately, I’ve immersed myself in indie music and classic sounds. I’ve been revisiting legends like Michael Jackson. There’s so much to glean from that timeless rhythm and emotion—especially when it pertains to performance. It serves as a significant source of inspiration.

DOHA: A song that has captured my attention these days is DPR LIVE’s “Jasmine”. It possesses this dreamy quality with smooth vocals layered over a stylish soundscape. It’s the kind of track that resonates emotionally, and I find myself returning to it frequently.
