According to a report from Fox News, on Monday, July 28, Sanders conducted a press conference where he disclosed his cancer diagnosis, which he received during the offseason. This revelation underscores the importance of regular health screenings and early detection.
“Men, everyone, please get checked. If it weren’t for me getting tested for something else, they wouldn’t have discovered this. Ensure you receive proper medical care because without the support of amazing healthcare professionals, I wouldn’t be here today. The cancer progressed rapidly. Please prioritize your health and get yourself checked,” he emphasized during the press conference.
In details shared by the outlet, Colorado’s assistant athletic trainer Lauren Askevold and Dr. Janet Kukreja from UC Health provided insights into Sanders’ bladder cancer diagnosis.
“We proceeded with the removal of the bladder tumor, which was very high grade and had invaded through the bladder wall, though not into the muscle layer. This condition is referred to as high-risk non-invasive bladder cancer,” Askevold explained.
Furthermore, the medical team elaborated on Sanders’ decision to undergo the bladder removal surgery along with a procedure to create a new bladder. The report concludes that Sanders is now considered cancer-free, although he humorously remarked that he “can’t pee like he used to.”

According to the outlet, footage emerged showing Sanders during the surgical procedure on May 9. The video, titled “For Your Glory (Part 1): Coach Prime Bladder Removal Surgery,” was released on YouTube. Notably, about a minute into the video, Karrueche Tran is seen beside Sanders, visibly emotional as she speaks to the camera.
“He just had his bladder removed, and they will fashion a new bladder using a section of his intestine,” Tran explained. “This option was chosen because it effectively removes the cancer and minimizes the risk of recurrence, given the tumor’s proximity to the muscle.”
