Patel was born in 1980 in Garden City, New York. His family has ancestral roots in India, and Patel was raised by his parents to practice the Hindu faith. He graduated from Garden City High School on Long Island, New York, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and criminal justice at the University of Richmond. Later, Patel completed his Juris Doctor at Pace University Law School in New York, and he earned a certificate in international law from University College London, England.

They married in India and emigrated to New York, where I was born and raised in a bustling household that included my father’s seven siblings, their spouses and six children.”
