Regarding Kate—mother to Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, with William—the engagement with Melania marks the latest event since she resumed her royal duties last fall after completing chemotherapy. Although the Princess of Wales had stepped back from public life following her cancer diagnosis, she has gradually returned to her responsibilities after finishing treatment.
Since then, she has provided insight into her experience of regaining a sense of normalcy after her health challenges.
“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she remarked during a visit to a hospital in July, according to People. “Once treatment’s done, it feels like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but the phase afterwards is truly very challenging.”
She encouraged other cancer survivors to be kind to themselves.
“You have to find your new normal and that takes time,” she stated, “and it’s a rollercoaster; it’s not as smooth as you might expect. But the reality is that you will face tough times.”
