Controversy Arises as John Rich Critiques Beyoncé?s Country Album Win at the Grammys

However, not everyone shared the same enthusiasm for Beyoncé?s country music success.
John Rich from Big & Rich took to social media during the 2025 Grammy Awards broadcast to voice his displeasure over the decision to award Beyoncé the title of Best Country Album instead of Lainey Wilson.
?Beyoncé wins ?Best Country Album? at The Grammys? Way to go,? he started, prompting a fan to respond, ?Of course, the Grammys had to push their agenda instead of genuinely honoring real country artists. Total joke!?
To that, Rich simply replied, ?show.?
When questioned about the voting process, with a fan saying, ?There?s NO WAY her album was better than Lainey Wilson?s Whirlwind. I don?t get it,? Rich alleged that ?record labels are making deals on the votes.?
He followed up with even bolder claims, stating, ?People are asking me, ?How do music award shows work?? Labels and publishers all have blocks of votes. They strike deals with each other, saying, ?You vote for mine, and I?ll vote for yours,? which has nothing to do with who created the best music. Thus, Beyoncé wins ?Country Album of the Year.? Good, right??

His final tweet on the matter stated, ?.@laineywilson > @Beyonce? ? a sentiment echoed by many on Wilson?s Instagram feed, although she has yet to comment on her loss. Both Wilson and Musgraves were seen standing and applauding for Knowles as she made her way to the stage.
?I believe that sometimes, genre becomes a code phrase to keep us in our place as artists,? Beyoncé remarked during her acceptance speech last night. ?I just want to inspire people to pursue their passions and to remain persistent in their endeavors.?
