Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have faced significant challenges in their marriage previously.
More than a year prior to the couple’s separation, the country singer revealed how his past struggle with addiction created difficulties early in their relationship.
“We got married in June 2006,” Keith, 57, stated during a speech honoring Nicole, 58, at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, according to People, “and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions… that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens.”
After beginning a three-month rehabilitation stay just four months into the marriage, the Grammy winner—who shares daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, with Nicole—recalled feeling uncertain about whether his wife would remain by his side.
“I had no idea what was going to happen to us… and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl,” he continued. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”
