Renowned filmmaker and comic book enthusiast Kevin Smith is set to merge his passion for Archie Comics with the iconic View Askewniverse in an exciting new crossover. In this unprecedented collaboration, Smith will transport the beloved characters of Riverdale into his unique comedic universe, promising a fresh and engaging narrative that fans of both franchises will cherish.

According to a report by THR, Kevin Smith is officially bringing his iconic View Askewniverse to the pages of Archie Comics. The celebrated writer and director, known for his work on films like Clerks, is crafting a double-sized crossover comic titled Kevin Smith Presents: Archie Meets Jay & Silent Bob. This collaboration marks a significant moment for fans who have long awaited a fusion of these two beloved worlds.
This exciting comic will take place after the poignant events of Clerks III, which concluded with a deeply impactful moment. Smith has shared that Archie will play a crucial role in the healing process for characters involved, as he takes on a summer job at the Quick Stop convenience store, forming a meaningful friendship with Randal Graves. Smith elaborated, stating, “This project is my homage to an iconic American franchise that I grew up with and loved. It reflects a midlife crisis narrative centered on themes of death and the journey of learning to cope with it.”

Kevin Smith’s enthusiasm for Archie Comics is evident, as he penned the initial draft of this comic just a day after the creative executive Jesse Goldwater proposed the idea to him. Goldwater expressed his admiration, stating, “Kevin has always been one of my creative heroes. Witnessing him infuse his unique voice and perspective into these classic characters is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.” He further emphasized, “Kevin’s storytelling has consistently blended humor and irreverence while also capturing the essence of love and friendship, much like the heartwarming tales of Archie Comics.”
The highly anticipated Kevin Smith Presents: Archie Meets Jay & Silent Bob will feature stunning artwork by Fernando Ruiz and Rich Koskowski, vibrant colors by Matt Herms, and expertly crafted letters by Jack Morelli. The captivating cover art will be a collaborative effort by Ruiz, Koskowski, and Rosario “Tito” Peña. Fans can expect the comic’s release on July 9th, promising an exciting addition to both the Archie and View Askewniverse legacies.
On the cinematic front, Smith revealed his plans for a sequel to Dogma, having finally regained rights to the film from the Weinsteins. He humorously noted, “Some critics might say, ‘Don’t touch it; you’ll ruin it,’” Smith remarked. “But I’m excited to dive back in. I found a way to explore new avenues.” He also hinted at the potential return of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, playfully mentioning that they owe him for not acknowledging him during their Good Will Hunting acceptance speeches. “I’ve held that over their heads for 25 years, which is why they keep appearing in my films,” he joked. “Expect more than just cameos from them; their presence is essential for the Dogma sequel.”
