This summer of horror has intensified with the thrilling return of I Know What You Did Last Summer. After a long 27-year break from theaters, beloved characters Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddy Prinze Jr.) are facing the terrifying threat of the notorious Fisherman Killer once again. Although the reviews for this exciting fourth installment have been mixed and the box office performance has not been impressive, dedicated slasher fans can already pre-order the highly anticipated legacy sequel’s stunning 4K steelbook edition.
The upcoming 4K/Blu-ray/Digital combo-pack steelbook promises to be eye-catching, featuring Madelyn Cline’s character, Danica Richards, depicted in a chilling scene as she listens to her meditations while relaxing in the bathtub, surrounded by a blood-red bath bomb on the front cover. This design mirrors one of the film’s most suspenseful kill sequences. The back cover displays an ominous image of the Fisherman Killer’s deadly hook, while the interior artwork showcases the new ensemble cast alongside the haunting message “You’re Next.” The cast includes Cline, Chase Sui Wonders as Ava Brucks, Tyriq Withers as Teddy Spencer, Jonah Hauer-King as Milo Griffin, and Sarah Pidgeon as Stevie Ward, all eerily depicted with their eyes crossed out. Although there is currently no announced release date or details on additional special features for the physical media editions, we are in the film’s second weekend, and the steelbook will retail for $44.99 USD. As is customary for major releases by Sony, fans can also expect to see Blu-ray and 4K slipcover editions of the film.
Experience the Return of the Fisherman Killer in Southport
In this gripping new installment of I Know What You Did Last Summer, we follow a group of young adults who become entangled in a catastrophic accident that occurs during a wild engagement party celebration. Rather than alerting the authorities, they make a pact to keep silent about their actions, leading to a cover-up by the police. This troubling trend of secrecy has plagued Southport ever since the infamous Fisherman Killer massacre in 1997. However, an unknown entity, aware of their dark secret, dons a slicker and sets out to deliver a gruesome lesson. As the young adults resort to the original killer’s playbook to navigate this terrifying situation, they will need to enlist the help of Julie and Ray if they hope to survive this nightmare.
Despite the latest film’s current Rotten Tomatoes score of just 39%, it possesses a deadly secret weapon: a shocking twist that viewers will not see coming. Director and co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has taken a bold risk with this slasher film. While some long-time fans might find it controversial, this daring approach will ultimately help distinguish this innovative slasher from the oversaturated landscape of the genre seen in contemporary cinema.
