Kim Kardashian has once again delved into the designer archives, showcasing a Christian Dior skirt suit. She wore this outfit in a recent photo from her Instagram carousel, further demonstrating her affection for archival fashion by recreating Cindy Crawford‘s iconic look from 1997, albeit with some modifications.
Kim Kardashian revives Cindy Crawford’s ’97 Dior skirt suit with a modern twist
In the newly shared Instagram carousel, the first image features Kim Kardashian in a vibrant red Dior skirt suit, reminiscent of a look from the brand’s Fall/Winter 1997 collection. The legendary model Cindy Crawford walked the runway in Paris in March 1997 wearing a similar ensemble. This iconic piece was part of John Galliano‘s inaugural ready-to-wear collection for Dior, following his couture collection launch in January 1997.
The original outfit that Crawford wore appeared to include a full-length gown layered with a double-breasted jacket adorned with floral designs and geometric short sleeves. Her runway look was completed with layered beaded red necklaces, long earrings, dramatic makeup, and an elegant high updo.
The SKIMS co-founder’s Dior skirt suit featured the same jacket; however, she replaced the gown with a long pencil skirt showcasing the same floral pattern. Notably, the skirt included a thigh-high slit that was absent from Crawford’s gown. The “All’s Fair” star styled her black hair in a curled bob with a center part and accessorized with large drop earrings, rings, and silver heels.
In another image from the same carousel, Kardashian posed in a suit from Donna Karan‘s Spring 1989 ready-to-wear collection. The cloudy grey suit, originally modeled by Brynia on the runway, consisted of a white shirt paired with a long blazer that tied at the waist and loose trousers. The reality TV star-turned-actor maintained the original look and accessorized with stud diamond earrings.
