Hulu has officially unveiled the highly anticipated teaser trailer for the revival of King of the Hill, and fans are in for a delightful surprise with an all-grown-up Bobby! The teaser presents a fresh take on the beloved opening credit sequence, which initially mirrors the original nostalgic vibes. However, as the storyline progresses through the seasons and years, we see the Hill family undergo significant changes, including their eventual relocation and the introduction of new neighbors for Bill, Boomhauer, and Dale. Thankfully, fans will be thrilled to see Hank and Peggy return to their cherished home, now accompanied by their adult son, Bobby.
Mark your calendars for the exciting premiere on August 4, as the 10-episode season embarks on a new chapter. In this revival, Hank and Peggy Hill have embraced retirement, returning to a transformed Arlen after years spent working in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Bobby, now 21, is living life to the fullest as he navigates the challenges of adulthood while pursuing his passion for cooking as a chef in Dallas. He enjoys his twenties alongside his childhood friends Connie, Joseph, and Chane.
While it’s not common for animated series to age their characters significantly, the opportunity to reconnect with the Hill family after so many years is a thrilling prospect. Fans will surely be eager to see how the characters adapt to the changes that life has thrown their way, making this revival a must-watch for both long-time followers and new audiences alike.
The original voices are back, with Mike Judge reprising his roles as Hank and Boomhauer, alongside Kathy Najimy as Peggy, Pamela Adlon as Bobby, Stephen Root as Bill, Ashley Gardner as Nancy, and Lauren Tom as Minh and Connie. Furthermore, Mike Judge will also take on the role of executive producer alongside Greg Daniels, with Saladin Patterson stepping in as showrunner. “We are all so excited to welcome back Hank, Peggy, and Bobby, eager to hear their perspectives on the current world and to continue the conversations that began years ago,” stated Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu, and Disney Branded Television streaming originals. “This show has all of the perfect ingredients to resonate with today’s animation landscape at Hulu, and we are grateful to engage in these discussions with such a talented team.“
It’s heartbreaking to note that Johnny Hardwick, the voice behind Dale Gribble, passed away in 2023. However, it’s been reported that he had completed work on “a couple” of the new episodes before his passing. The future of his character remains uncertain; the team may choose to retire Dale’s character, or a new voice actor might take over the role. In a joint statement, 20th Television Animation and Hulu expressed, “Johnny Hardwick was an incredibly beloved member of the King of the Hill family, whose immense talent, brilliant humor, and friendship will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him over the last 25 years. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family as we mourn the loss of one of animation’s greats. His voice brought life to one of our most iconic characters, and he will be truly missed.“
