With the highly anticipated release of James Gunn’s Superman now captivating audiences in theaters, Nathan Fillion has made his exciting debut as the iconic character Guy Gardner. However, fans can look forward to seeing Fillion reprise this beloved role in several upcoming DC Universe projects, including the much-anticipated Lanterns series that promises to offer a fresh take on the superhero genre.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fillion opened up about his unique portrayal in the Lanterns series, highlighting its notably different tone compared to Superman. The actor even hinted at an unexpected twist, revealing that he dropped “more F-bombs” during his time in Lanterns than in any other project throughout his extensive career, indicating a more mature and edgy atmosphere for the show.
“Aaron [Pierre], he’s got a voice like butter. And he’s statuesque, like he’s carved out of marble,” Fillion enthusiastically remarked about his co-star. “He’s very, very specific about his character and what his character’s going through. His character’s clearly going through something. And then along comes this gregarious, smug son of a bitch in Guy Gardner. And in that show…boy, Guy Gardner. I’ve dropped more F-bombs in that project than I have in, I think, my entire career put together.“
It appears that Fillion shares a significant portion of his screentime with the talented Aaron Pierre, who portrays John Stewart. Fillion teased that Guy’s interactions with John take an unexpected turn. “By the end of it, you can tell there is a shift,” he explained. “Guy Gardner is no longer comfortable. He is no longer feeling smug. Then you can see where John’s strength really lies. That is a strong individual. I don’t really have any scenes directly with Hal Jordan, but meeting Kyle, he’s everything you’d hope he would be. Very fun, very nice man, very lighthearted, and fun to be around.“
The upcoming series Lanterns centers on the dynamic duo of Hal Jordan (played by Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (played by Pierre), described as “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Fans can eagerly anticipate Fillion’s return as Guy Gardner in the second season of Peacemaker, set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, further expanding his presence in the DC Universe.
As previously mentioned, Nathan Fillion currently stars alongside talented actors like David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult in the thrilling Superman film.
