The fate of Law & Order: Organized Crime is addressed by one of the show’s stars.
Organized Crime holds a significant place in the overall Law & Order franchise as the first character-focused spinoff in the police drama’s history, beginning in April 2021 when it followed Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler, returning to the NYPD after the murder of his wife. However, the show’s fate has been an ongoing question since its move from NBC to the Peacock streaming service.
Original cast member Danielle Moné Truitt responded to a question about the future of the series. Truitt, who plays Sergeant Ayanna Bell, was asked if the Meloni-led crime drama was coming back for another season. In her response, which is screencapped below, Truitt replied: “Not sure Hun.”
It has been almost a year since June 2025’s Organized Crime season 5 finale, in which Stabler and his team are left free to take on new cases. Although there hasn’t been an official renewal, it was recently reported that the spinoff was “not very active at the moment.” However, the show is quietly looking for a new showrunner. If one is found, that increases the chances of a renewal.
Organized Crime has had several showrunners depart since its premiere, with co-creator Matt Olmstead returning as executive producer to help guide the series in its move to Peacock. Olmstead initially stepped down before the Law & Order spinoff began production on its first season. He was succeeded by Ilene Chaiken, followed by Barry O’Brien, Sean Jablonski, and Ozark‘s John Shiban.
The spinoff is said to have performed well enough on Peacock and in its subsequent reairings on NBC to be a good candidate for a renewal. However, as of now, Organized Crime‘s lead star is attached to a different project.
Meloni will lead The Land at Hulu from This Is Us and Paradise creator Dan Fogelman, playing the head coach of an NFL team, with a cast that also includes William H. Macy, Mandy Moore, Chace Crawford, Chloe Bennet, Sam Corlett, Tanner Zagarino, Bridget Moynahan, and Benjamin Bratt. It does not yet have a release date.
At the time that The Land was announced, it was said that the Hulu sports series would not interfere with Law & Order: Organized Crime season 6 and that Meloni could still do both shows. Although there hasn’t been a concrete update since then, it seems possible that the Stabler-centered spinoff could still make its way back to audiences eventually.
