This season’s winter layering emphasizes proportion and texture, grounded in familiar pieces styled with a more defined perspective. Below are four outfits that transition seamlessly from day to evening while remaining stylish and relevant.
Classic With Movement
A poplin shirt serves as a strong foundation, especially when layered with a silk scarf styled in various ways. I prefer this look with denim and a trench coat for an effortlessly polished base, then adding an unexpected element at the shoes, such as an animal-print ballet flat or a vibrant color. A suede clutch completes the outfit without overwhelming it.
Clean Lines, Winter Details
A slim turtleneck beneath a long coat is a timeless combination. Pair it with a midi skirt to balance the proportions, and finish with gloves and a top-handle bag for a refined appearance. This formula can easily be repeated in different colors; burgundy, chocolate brown, or classic black are all excellent choices.
Tailored With Depth
Layering a blouse under a velvet vest with tailored trousers creates a clean, structured foundation. Adding a longer necklace on top and tassel details enhances the texture while drawing attention to the neckline.
Cozy With Structure
A chunky knit beneath a shearling coat is a classic winter essential, especially when paired with knee-high boots to balance the bulk. One of my favorite winter accessories is a pillbox hat; I particularly enjoy it in leopard print for a subtle statement. This outfit is also an excellent opportunity to incorporate patterns or colors through the knitwear or outerwear.
