“Kai has always been true to herself. However, the moment that struck me the most was when she expressed her desire for us to change her pronouns. Honestly, it didn’t seem like a huge deal to me because Kai has exhibited such femininity for a long time,” Liev reflected. His perspective sheds light on the significance of understanding and supporting a child’s identity evolution.
He further elaborated, saying, “Kai is incredibly resilient. It’s crucial for her to declare, ‘I am trans,’ and assert herself with confidence by saying, ‘Look at me,’ and, ‘F–k you! F–k off!’” His words resonate with the struggles and triumphs faced by many in the LGBTQ+ community.
When asked to provide guidance for parents whose children are navigating their trans identities, Liev shared his candid thoughts. “I can’t provide a definitive answer for your child’s situation. I don’t know your experiences as a parent to a transgender child or your personal background. I’m aware that parenting a trans teenager can be challenging,” he said. “To be honest, teenagers can be a handful, regardless of their gender identity. You’ll get through this, but raising a trans teen comes with its unique set of challenges. Kai is fiercely independent and as spirited as they come.”
