Limited Time Event for Mubi’s 35th Anniversary Celebration

Mubi has successfully secured the streaming rights to David Lynch and Mark Frost’s legendary 1990 television series Twin Peaks, along with its critically acclaimed 2017 continuation, Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series. This exciting announcement coincides with the 35th anniversary of Twin Peaks and follows shortly after the passing of the iconic filmmaker. Fans will be thrilled to know that both series are set to premiere on the platform this June. This presents an exceptional chance for long-time enthusiasts to immerse themselves once again in Lynch’s surreal and captivating universe, while also offering newcomers an opportunity to dive into this beloved cult classic for the very first time.

The original series, which first captivated audiences in the early 1990s, centers around the gripping investigation led by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) into the tragic murder of local high school student Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). This compelling mystery drama is revered for its engaging detective fiction, eerie supernatural elements, and delightfully quirky tone. The inaugural season boasts an impressive 78 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience score is even higher at 92 percent, reflecting its lasting impact and popularity.

The second season of Twin Peaks continues to unravel the mystery with its complex narrative, introducing viewers to a host of eccentric characters and mesmerizing dream sequences. This season has received a 65 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition to MacLachlan and Lee, the series features a talented ensemble cast, including Michael Ontkean, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Richard Beymer, Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Warren Frost, Peggy Lipton, James Marshall, and Everett McGill, among others, all of whom contribute to the show’s unique charm.

A highly anticipated follow-up series premiered in 2017, taking place 25 years after the suspenseful cliffhanger that concluded season 2. Directed once again by Lynch, this continuation was co-written and executive produced by Lynch and Frost, alongside Sabrina S. Sutherland. Much like its predecessor, the 2017 series was lauded for its innovative narrative style, stunning visual artistry, and remarkable performances by the cast. “Launching Twin Peaks alongside Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series is a dream for MUBI, bringing one of the most beloved and discussed series in TV history to the platform. While this launch has been months in the making, the unfortunate news of David Lynch’s passing just weeks ago makes this opportunity to showcase his iconic work all the more significant. We are thrilled for the Lynch fans in our membership to revisit the episodes in their entirety, as well as to create an opportunity for new audiences to discover it for the first time.”
