The statement read, “Imani had her whole life ahead of her. She was a vivacious, loving and fiercely talented person.” The family confirmed that Smith is survived by her 3-year-old son, as well as her parents, siblings, and extended relatives.

Officials stressed that the charges are accusations and that the suspect is presumed innocent under the law.

Investigators stated that Smith and Jackson-Small were known to each other. However, they declined to reveal further details about their relationship or the events that led to the stabbing. Jackson-Small is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center while awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing.
