Discover the Talented Scottish Voice Behind Love Island: Iain Stirling
Meet Iain Stirling, the charismatic narrator who brings life to both Love Island UK and Love Island USA. His unique blend of humor and insight has made him an integral part of the viewing experience, and his schedule during filming is nothing short of hectic.
“Around noon U.K. time, I log onto Love Island UK,” shared the witty Scottish comedian in an interview with TODAY in 2024. By this time, the filming for the show is nearly complete, and Iain engages in writing sessions that typically last two to three hours. He aims to wrap up around 4 or 4:30 PM, after which he shifts focus to his family duties, including preparing dinner and overseeing bath time for his child. While he wishes for a more glamorous lifestyle, this routine is his reality. Once the family time is done, he prepares for Love Island USA, logging in at 8:30 PM, which aligns with an early slot in Fiji time.
Stirling observes rough cuts from his home via Zoom, as explained by executive producer Parrish to The Wrap. During these sessions, he and his writing team focus on capturing humorous moments from the scenes and recalling key storylines, which they record using a microphone at home. This collaborative effort ensures that the narration seamlessly integrates into the episodes, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
The recorded narration is then incorporated into the final episode before it is sent to Peacock’s legal and standards team. This team occasionally provides notes that necessitate last-minute adjustments to ensure everything meets the required guidelines and standards.
“We generally aim to finish our work by around midnight or 1 AM, but I often find myself staying up until around 2:30 AM,” Stirling shared with TODAY. This schedule is far from ideal, especially since it’s still early in the U.S. airing. Ideally, he would prefer to work until 5 or 6 in the morning, although that would mean sacrificing sleep, which is not a sustainable option for him.
The enduring connections fostered by the Love Island franchise are exemplified by Stirling’s personal life; he married former Love Island UK host Laura Whitmore in 2020, and they celebrated the arrival of their daughter in March 2021. This beautiful family dynamic reflects the lasting impact of the show beyond its entertainment value.
