‘Love Island USA’ Stars Respond to Season 7 Online Hate

Olandria Shares Her Experience with Hate After Leaving ‘Love Island USA’ Villa

Olandria captured the hearts of viewers throughout the summer and was affectionately referred to as “the glue of the villa” by her fellow Islanders, quickly becoming a beloved fan favorite. Her authentic and down-to-earth energy resonated with a wide audience, especially through her trending relationship with Nicolandria, which kept her consistently in the spotlight as fans rallied to keep her on the show. However, with increased visibility came a wave of public scrutiny that Olandria has had to navigate.

As she continues to adapt to life beyond the villa, Olandria opened up in a candid interview with Variety about the challenges she has faced, particularly in dealing with incidents of racism and microaggressions following her time on the show.

“It’s difficult. I’m not going to lie,” she expressed. “I even heard there was a meme making a comparison between me and George Floyd, while Huda was likened to an officer. That’s an incredibly sensitive topic for the Black community. It’s appalling, to say the least. I just don’t understand how someone can take a show focused on love and turn it into something so grotesque. I received death threats, and so did my family. This should never happen.”

Chelley Returns to Social Media to Address Ongoing Criticism

Similar to Olandria, her fellow villa contestant Chelley frequently encountered criticism, with both women being labeled as “mean girls” for establishing boundaries during their time on the show. Despite their genuine friendship and vibrant personalities, public opinion was not always favorable. The shocking elimination of Chelley and her partner Ace from the villa left fans in disbelief, leading both to take a much-needed hiatus from social media. On Thursday, the duo returned to the online world, and in her first post back, Chelley took a moment to express her gratitude to everyone who supported her amidst the backlash.

“To those who’ve supported me from the start, to my new fans, and to every individual—regardless of race—who has shown nothing but love, thank you,” she shared. “To the people who utilized their platforms not just to recap a show but to speak honestly about the deeper challenges that Black women face, your support has been invaluable. Your words have helped me stand firm against the hate that often feels overwhelming. Because of you, I’ve maintained my sense of self, and I continue to choose love and peace over hate.”

Huda Opens Up About Online Hate Targeting Fellow ‘Love Island USA’ Stars

When discussing her recent friendships with Olandria, Chelley, and Amaya, Huda spoke openly about the connections they share and the online hate they’ve been facing since leaving the villa.

“I still love Olandria,” she stated. “If I’m not harboring any hate toward her, then I don’t believe anyone else should either. While everyone is entitled to their opinions, there are clear lines that are being crossed. I do not support hate or bullying… it puts people’s safety at risk. The last thing I want is for anyone to feel unsafe or receive backlash because of me. That’s completely unacceptable.”

She also addressed her feelings towards Chelley, adding:

“Even though Chelley and I are not the closest, I sincerely wish her nothing but the best. Nobody deserves to endure any form of hatred whatsoever.”

The Power of Love Beyond the Villa Walls

Despite the backlash that some of the Love Island contestants have endured, the support from celebrities and brands outside the villa has been overwhelmingly positive. Several prominent figures, including Marsai Martin and Ryan Destiny, took to their social media platforms to respond to the show’s weekly events. Rapper GloRilla also expressed her admiration, posting on X: “I love Chelley. She can do no wrong.”

Meanwhile, after sharing lighthearted moments with the contestants in the villa, Megan Thee Stallion took the time to clarify her stance, reaffirming her love for both Olandria and Chelley after facing backlash for previously stating she was “Team Huda” in an interview.
