However, Madonna has teased the possibility of a comeback for the project, indicating that the script is currently undergoing significant rewrites. Recently, the talented actress Julia Garner has confirmed that the Madonna biopic is indeed back on track and making progress.
In a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast, Garner expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “That’s supposed to still happen,” she stated, highlighting the long and challenging journey of creating something exceptional. “Anything that’s great… I feel like it takes a long time.” This statement reassures fans that the project is still very much alive.
Garner, known for her role in Fantastic Four, shared her deep admiration for Madonna, recalling her childhood filled with the music of the pop legend. Upon learning about the Madonna biopic, she felt compelled to audition for the role. The audition process was particularly daunting as she had to showcase her singing and dancing abilities in front of Madonna herself. “I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it,” Garner explained. With no formal dance training, she had to learn choreography quickly and demonstrate her skills convincingly. “because I wasn’t a trained dancer and I had to learn how to dance and then dance in front of her and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing. And sing with her!“
Garner also mentioned that she focused on embodying the essence of Madonna during her audition. “OK, what would Madonna do? Which is convince you that she deserves, you know, to be in this room, and I owned it,” she reflected. Garner’s confidence was evident as she added, “I was kind of like, ‘You can take it or leave it, but if you leave it, if I leave, then that’s on you.’“ Such determination showcases her passion for the role and the legacy of Madonna.
