Margaret Qualley discusses early days of her acting career
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Margaret Qualley revealed that beginning her acting career felt overwhelming. She stated, “I started working so young, and when I first started acting, I was just overwhelmed.” Qualley had previously worked as a model, but she faced significant pressure during her late teens and early 20s.
She elaborated, “I felt like if I was fully myself, women would hate me and men would hurt me. And so that took away some of the tools that come with being a woman because I was scared. Gradually, now that I feel like I have more control of my life, I can kind of lean more into the sensual and the feminine.”
The Honey Don’t! The actress mentioned that she has made mistakes in her career but clarified, “I’m supercompetitive with myself, and I’m very driven. I have learned the lesson of my eyes being too big for my stomach professionally. That means taking all the opportunities I can get and then crashing and feeling like I have a schedule I can’t keep up with. When I say mistakes, I don’t mean it was the wrong thing; I mean I wouldn’t do it again.”
Her marriage to Jack Antonoff has helped enhance her confidence. “Jack has helped me for sure because he has made me feel more confident to explore all the parts of myself. But I’m also thinking about Mother Earth and the divine feminine and surrender. Those are the things I’m trying to lean into at this moment in my life.”
Even after achieving success, Qualley continued to push herself. She took on challenging roles that tested her limits. In 2024, she starred in The Substance, which received positive reviews from critics and showcased her versatility as an artist.
Margaret Qualley will next appear alongside Glen Powell in A24’s How to Make a Killing, which is set to be released in theaters on February 20.
