After a lengthy period of speculation and anticipation, music enthusiasts are finally treated to the debut single from the enigmatic band known as President. The excitement surrounding their upcoming live performance at the Download Festival is palpable, and the release of this new track has many fans believing they have uncovered the identity of the band’s lead vocalist.
On Thursday night, May 15, the masked collective President made waves online with the launch of their new song titled “In the Name of the Father.” This powerful track not only captures the essence of their unique sound but also sets the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating live show.
The initial buzz about President began earlier this year, coinciding with their announcement of a highly sought-after slot at the Download Festival. Fans quickly pieced together clues from the music, the mysterious masks, and the accompanying video, sparking speculation about the identities of the individuals behind the band.
Much of the early conjecture suggested that President could be a spinoff project of the popular festival headliners Sleep Token, given the similarities in the musical snippet and a potential connection through the production company responsible for their website and management.
Some fans also drew parallels between President and Deftones, as well as the side project Crosses led by Chino Moreno, noting the illuminated signage featured in the teaser. However, it remains to be seen if these guesses hold any merit.
No matter the speculation, the excitement surrounding the release of President’s first single has been steadily growing since the initial teaser emerged, with social media platforms buzzing with discussions about this new musical venture.

Fans Share Their Thoughts on President’s Debut Single
It seems that music fans are rallying around President from the get-go. The overwhelming majority of comments are not just positive but also filled with enthusiasm, suggesting that this band has the potential to become a significant player in the music scene.
In the YouTube comments section of the video, one enthusiastic viewer remarked, “In 10 years from now, I can proudly say I was here from the beginning. Thumbs up if you agree! Well done, gents, this is truly amazing!” Another fan expressed, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many people excited for a band’s very first release.”

Other listeners in the YouTube comments shared their opinions, with one stating, “It’s a blend of Deftones, Sleep Token, Northlane, and even some elements of 2010s pop music. This is an insane mix, and they truly nailed it. This could be massive!”
Another commented, “If this is the kind of music we can expect from President, then I’m all in! This track blew me away,” while a third added, “The pop sensibilities in his vocals will surely lead to some incredible choruses in future songs. I can already envision it.”
On the social media platform X, fans echoed this excitement. One user proclaimed, “The band President is destined to become a major force in the metal genre; mark my words.” Another inquired, “Have we just discovered our new favorite band?”
“Regardless of what others think, @president_band is fantastic; I already bought a t-shirt and can’t wait to see what else they release,” expressed another listener. “I HAVE GOOSEBUMPS! Y’all, I think I’ve found my new favorite band,” concluded yet another excited fan.
However, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm. One user expressed their discontent, stating, “I don’t care if you enjoy a certain band or song, but I have to say that the President track is probably the worst thing I’ve ever heard.” Another commented, “To be honest, I was left disappointed by President last night. I expected the whole band to showcase more talent, but it felt overly electronic with a recognizable voice. Just hype and an image,” they lamented.
A third user remarked, “Call me critical, but I don’t think President is that great. Can we please move past the masked singer gimmick? It’s getting a bit corny.”
Fans Speculate on the Identity of President’s Lead Vocalist
Despite the band’s efforts to maintain anonymity through masks in their teasers and the music video for “In the Name of the Father,” many social media commenters seem convinced they have identified Charlie Simpson as the voice behind President.
“I understand that President is meant to be an anonymous band, but the vocals are a dead giveaway,” commented one user on X.
“@CharlieSimpson, did you really think we wouldn’t recognize you from the first note of #presidentband?,” another user chimed in.
“Wow, the lead singer of President is definitely Charlie Simpson. I can recognize that voice anywhere,” exclaimed a third fan, revealing, “For those who may not know, he was part of the band Fightstar and even won a season of The Masked Singer.
“I always knew it would be Charlie Simpson. I never had any doubts,” added a fourth user.
Meanwhile, in the comments section of the YouTube video, one viewer shared, “It’s fantastic to hear Charlie’s voice in a heavier context again; as a long-time Fightstar fan, this is a dream come true!” Another added, “First Busted, then Fightstar, and now President—you keep delivering amazing content.”
“It’s good to see that Charlie still has it. He must have noticed the PR success of Sleep Token and thought, ‘I need to get in on that.’ Great song!” another fan remarked.
For those unfamiliar, Charlie Simpson is a member of the British pop-punk band Busted. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2002, and they have produced four studio albums, with the latest being 2019’s Half Way There.
Simpson is also a founding member of the U.K. post-hardcore group Fightstar, which debuted with the album Grand Unification in 2006 and has released four albums, the most recent being 2015’s Behind the Devil’s Back.
In 2023, Simpson participated in the fourth season of the U.K. version of The Masked Singer. Following his appearance on the show, he released the Kitaru EP, which features songs he performed during the competition.
The next major reveal for President will occur during their live concert debut at the Download Festival in 2025. The band is scheduled to perform on the Dogtooth Stage at 4:25 PM on June 15.
