Alec Baldwin has been maintaining a lower profile in recent years, making this latest casting update quite significant. The Oscar-nominated actor is officially joining a high-profile new feature alongside one of Marvel’s biggest stars, with filming set to commence very soon. This project also boasts a strong cast and an intriguing premise. For Baldwin, this announcement is sure to attract attention.
According to a recent report, Baldwin has joined Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz in Kockroach, a crime film set in New York directed by Captain Fantastic director Matt Ross. Filming is scheduled to begin in April. The project is produced by Andrew Lazar and Christina Weiss Lurie, with Black Bear managing international sales alongside CAA Media Finance and Range Select for domestic rights.
Based on the William Lashner novel — which is a re-imagining of Franz Kafka‘s 1915 novella, The Metamorphosis — Kockroach follows the story of a mysterious stranger who infiltrates New York’s criminal underworld and gradually transforms into a larger-than-life crime boss in a city where power is everything. This strange, darkly comedic setup has already garnered significant attention due to its cast, and Ross is directing from a screenplay by Jonathan Ames, with revisions by Ross himself.

What Happened to Alec Baldwin?
In 2021, while filming the Western Rust, a revolver that Baldwin was handling discharged a live round, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. This incident led to years of criminal and civil litigation. Baldwin faced charges of involuntary manslaughter, but in 2024, the judge dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning that specific criminal charge could not be brought again after determining that prosecutors and police had withheld evidence regarding the ammunition.
Separately, the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, sentenced to 18 months, and later released under supervision. Baldwin subsequently sued New Mexico officials for what he termed malicious prosecution, but that lawsuit was dismissed in 2025 due to lack of follow-up, although it could be refiled.
