Meat Dress and Grammys Egg Highlights

Standing out on the Grammys red carpet—or at any music awards show—is no small feat, as it tends to be fashion’s most daring night.

Enter Lady Gaga in an egg.

The “Abracadabra” singer arrived at the 2011 show in an ovoid carriage, barely visible through the cloudy, Alien-like exterior.

“We would call this an outfit,” Gaga mused to British Vogue about the all-encompassing ensemble. “Everyone calls this the egg but it’s actually a vessel that was designed by Hussein Chalayan.”

She was held aloft by several handlers clad in nude latex. As she stated, “I was very particular about the way the fashion looked for this performance,” and she insisted on nothing but latex.

“A bus company had latex that they were using to cover the seats of their buses, and we found the latex and we asked if we could buy it from them,” she recalled. “So everybody’s fashion that’s made here was made from the fabric from seats for a bus.”

Gaga later hatched on stage, revealing her own yolk-colored outfit.

But how else was she going to top her meat dress?!
