Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel Wasted $300K on Album Budget

Memphis Bleek disclosed that he and Beanie Sigel had plans to collaborate on a highly anticipated album together, much to the excitement of their fans.

In a captivating episode of his new show ROC Solid, the talented Brooklyn rapper Memphis Bleek shared a fascinating story during a conversation with his close friend and fellow artist Freeway. He recounted how, back in the early 2000s, they traveled to Miami to record music. At that time, Freeway was emerging as a prominent rapper from Philadelphia and decided to accompany Bleek and Beanie Sigel to seize the opportunity of studio time. The duo was expected to create tracks for a collaborative album that fans were eagerly anticipating, fueled by their previous hits such as “My Hood to Your Hood,” “So What You Saying,” and “Hustlers.”

“Me and Beans were supposed to do an album,” Bleek elaborated during the show. “They flew us to Miami — I didn’t bring any of my artists, but Beans insisted on bringing Freeway along. Since Freeway lacked a budget, he was eager to join us. While we were supposed to be productive in the studio, we ended up goofing off. When we returned to New York, Jay asked us what we accomplished. Both Beans and I looked at each other, realizing we had nothing to show for our time. Jay was shocked, saying, ‘Yo, ya blew $300,000 just in the studio? What did ya do?’ Guru chimed in, ‘But Freeway has some records.’ And my guy Free, you came through with two incredible records, bro.”

Freeway then shared that he made a strategic decision to collaborate with renowned producer Just Blaze instead of joining the party scene. This choice led to the creation of the popular track “Roc the Mic,” which reached an impressive No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “That’s when I began to cultivate my relationship with Just,” he reminisced. “While everyone else wanted to hit the clubs during our time in Miami, I was focused on the music, saying, ‘Man, forget that, I’m in the studio.’”

Although Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel returned without their collaborative project, Bleek did come back with the standout track “Round Here,” featuring the talented Trick Daddy and T.I. This song ultimately became the lead single for his 2003 album M.A.D.E., showcasing his growth and evolution as an artist.
