Meri from Sister Wives Explains Family Finances and Kids

Janelle Raises Concerns About Kody’s Financial Management in Their Family

Expressing frustration over the family?s struggles to settle the debts associated with Coyote Pass, Janelle pointed out that Kody often cited having “all these other debts.” However, she has observed him acquiring various assets such as trailers and home décor. “I see all the art on their walls,” she remarked regarding Kody and Robyn’s residence. “I see all these things. And that?s fine; I have money and I?ve spent it on things, too.” Kody, defending his spending, explained that much of his finances were directed towards purchasing cars?claiming he “basically had a fleet”?and securing insurance for the children.

While Janelle admitted uncertainty about how Kody and Robyn managed their financial affairs, she expressed her surprise at the well-maintained state of Robyn’s backyard, which was always fully furnished. “It was completely finished. And there was always, like, stuff at her house. And I was like, ‘Wow. Huh,’” she shared, highlighting her growing concern about the differences in their financial priorities.

Ultimately, she concluded, “He doesn’t prioritize what I need or what I want.” This financial discrepancy became a significant issue for her over time. “I think after a while, I began to see it, and my kids were getting very angry about it, like my adult children. Like, ‘What the hell, Mom?’” Their reactions underscored the growing tension surrounding financial decisions within the family.

In contrast, Robyn emphasized her cautious approach to budgeting, particularly after her first marriage ended. ?I used to be not so great with money,” she reflected during the episode aired on Sept. 22. “When I was young, I had hard knocks, and then I learned during my divorce really how to budget myself very, very well.” Addressing her sister wives, she stated, “You just must have had a different priority of where your money was going to go than I did, that’s all,” indicating the differing financial philosophies within their family structure.
