In a remarkable twist of fate, a family from Virginia believes that their plans to attend a Metallica concert played a crucial role in saving them from a catastrophic car crash that occurred in their home earlier this month. The McKee family had eagerly purchased tickets to see Metallica perform live on May 7 at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg. In anticipation of the concert, they opted to retire to bed earlier than usual, choosing not to follow their regular routine of watching television in their living room, completely unaware of the impending danger.
Hours after the family settled in for the night, a vehicle unexpectedly crashed through their house, barreling straight into their living room. Kristin McKee vividly remembers asking her husband if he wanted to stay up late that night. “He responded, ‘Nah, I think I’m just gonna go on to bed,’ and I replied, ‘Okay, I’ll go on to bed too.’ Just a few hours later, we were jolted awake by a loud explosion, followed by the sound of glass shattering, plunging us into chaos,” she recounted, as reported by local news station WDBJ7.
Due to the extensive damage inflicted on their home by the collision, the McKee family regrettably could not attend the highly anticipated Metallica concert the following day. However, they remain profoundly grateful that no family members were injured during this traumatic event. “We feel incredibly fortunate that my daughter was able to navigate through the wreckage and find us amidst the rubble. Every day, I thank God and Metallica for what they did for us, because their concert plans truly saved us,” Kristin expressed with heartfelt gratitude.
The couple’s 14-year-old daughter, Madeline, was particularly excited about attending the concert, as she has been a devoted fan of the iconic metal band for many years. Her passion for Metallica was sparked by her father, but it skyrocketed after witnessing Stranger Things character Eddie Munson perform “Master of Puppets” during one of the show’s thrilling season finales a few years back. This pivotal moment deepened her connection with the band and their music.

In a touching gesture, Madeline composed a heartfelt letter addressed to Metallica, expressing her gratitude for saving her family. “You saved my parents’ lives. I will be forever grateful. Good luck with the rest of your tour, and I hope to see you on the road. Sincerely, Maddie McKee,” she wrote, encapsulating the profound impact of the concert plans on their lives.
The McKee family is optimistic about returning to their home within the next six months, as they work through the aftermath of this harrowing incident. To witness a news clip of the incident, see the video below.
