Miami Vice Returns to the Big Screen with Maverick’s Director

Stay tuned for the latest updates on this unfolding story as we continue to provide you with fresh insights and information regarding the development of this exciting project.

Iconic characters Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs are set to make a thrilling comeback in the highly anticipated new Miami Vice feature film. Collider has confirmed that Universal Pictures has enlisted the talented Joseph Kosinski, renowned for his direction of Top Gun: Maverick, to helm this upcoming project. The screenplay will be crafted by the accomplished Dan Gilroy, known for his work on Andor and Nightcrawler. Although casting details have yet to be announced, Kosinski will be co-producing alongside Dylan Clark. This new venture follows Kosinski’s upcoming film, F1, which dives into the exhilarating world of sports racing and features Oscar-winning stars Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem, scheduled for release on June 23. While the new Miami Vice is expected to kick off after Kosinski wraps F1, specific release dates and production schedules are still under wraps.

In addition to F1, this won’t be the first project for Kosinski since the blockbuster success of Top Gun: Maverick. Immediately following the release of this aviation thriller, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office, Kosinski collaborated with Chris Hemsworth, a veteran of the Marvel franchise, on the film Spiderhead. This psychological thriller, featuring Miles Teller, received a lukewarm response, achieving ratings of only 39% from critics and 30% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Top Gun: Maverick marked the first film Kosinski directed in five years, with his previous outing being Only the Brave, a poignant biopic centered on firefighting, starring Miles Teller and Josh Brolin. Kosinski’s impressive filmography also includes notable works such as the space sci-fi epic Oblivion, featuring Tom Cruise, and the visually stunning sequel Tron: Legacy, which starred Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde.
