Michael Douglas Addresses Sharon Stone’s Heated Argument Claim

Michael Douglas responds to Sharon Stone’s intriguing revelations about their friendship’s origins.

The 80-year-old Academy Award-winning actor and the 67-year-old Hollywood actress first starred together in the 1992 erotic thriller Basic Instinct, and their camaraderie has endured through the years.

However, in a recent interview, Sharon made an interesting claim, stating that she and Michael did not initially connect.

Discover the full story behind their friendship…During her conversation with Business Insider, Sharon mentioned that Michael was hesitant to accept the role in the film because he “did not want to put his bare ass out on the screen with an unknown — and I understood that.”

“He wouldn’t even test with me, but that was also for a different reason: We had an argument prior to that,” she elaborated, providing details about a disagreement with Michael.

“A group of us were gathered, and he was discussing someone and their children. I was very familiar with the individual he was talking about,” Sharon recalled. “So, I interjected, and he responded, saying, ‘What the f–k do you know?’ This was in reference to a father-child relationship.”

“Clearly, it triggered a strong reaction from him,” she continued. “He yelled this across the entire group of people. I’m not the type to shy away or be intimidated; I pushed back my chair and confronted him, saying, ‘Let’s step outside.’ That’s how our initial meeting unfolded.”

Once they were outside, Sharon asserted, “I clarified exactly what I knew about the family he was discussing, explaining that I was very close friends with both the children and the parent. Our interaction concluded without animosity; I wouldn’t say we became best friends, but it was amicable.”

“Fast forward to the casting of Basic Instinct, I don’t think he was particularly thrilled about me being his co-star,” she added with a hearty laugh.

Sharon further stated that the previously tense dynamic between her and Michael “worked wonderfully” once they began filming together “because I wasn’t fazed if he raised his voice at me.”

“This dynamic was fascinating for the character because Michael has a fiery temper, and I remained unfazed. It contributed positively to our on-screen chemistry,” she noted, also mentioning that “eventually, we became the best of friends, and that bond continues to this day.”

“I hold him in high regard,” Sharon expressed with admiration.

In response to Sharon’s claims, Michael’s representative shared with People that he is “very surprised” by these assertions of an argument, as “he doesn’t recall any such disagreement during that period” with her.

“He specifically remembers first seeing Sharon during [director] Paul Verhoeven’s screen test for Basic Instinct and said, ‘Absolutely, she’s the one,’” the representative added.

Furthermore, while Michael “definitely spent time with” Sharon at Cannes, “that occurred later, during the promotion of Basic Instinct in 1992,” his representative claimed. “By the time they completed the movie, they had established a friendship.”
