Michael, the eagerly awaited biographical film from Lionsgate and Universal Pictures, directed by the acclaimed Antoine Fuqua, has officially rescheduled its premiere to April 24, 2026. This new date replaces the previously announced release in October 2025, highlighting the film’s anticipated significance in the cinematic landscape.

The announcement about the schedule change—initially reported by Deadline—follows the completion of principal photography in May 2024. However, extensive reshoots and a lengthy initial cut necessitated additional time for post-production. Studio executives had previously indicated the possibility of a delay, contemplating whether to divide the film, Michael, into two parts due to its ambitious narrative scope and a substantial budget of $155 million.

The screenplay, crafted by John Logan, delves deep into the pivotal moments of Michael Jackson‘s life. It covers everything from his childhood, shaped by the strict guidance of Joe and Katherine Jackson, to the extraordinary heights of his record-breaking solo career. Portraying the iconic figure, Jaafar Jackson, who is the real-life nephew of the late singer, takes on the challenging role of embodying Michael Jackson.

The impressive cast features renowned actors including Colman Domingo and Nia Long portraying Joe and Katherine Jackson, respectively. Additionally, Miles Teller plays attorney John Branca, Larenz Tate takes on the role of Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier embodies Suzanne de Passe, Kat Graham portrays Diana Ross, Jessica Sula acts as La Toya Jackson, Liv Symone plays Gladys Knight, Kevin Shinick appears as Dick Clark, and Kendrick Sampson represents Quincy Jones, among others in this star-studded ensemble.

Leading the production is Oscar-winning producer Graham King, known for his work on The Departed. King is at the helm of a talented team that has successfully negotiated rights to some of Michael Jackson‘s most cherished songs. Reports suggest that this intricate process involved detailed discussions with Jackson’s estate and several music publishers to accurately recreate the magic of Jackson’s iconic onstage performances.

Universal Pictures will oversee international distribution, with the exception of Japan, where Kino Films holds the rights for release, while Lionsgate will manage domestic theatrical responsibilities.
