Whoopi Goldberg Critiques Trump-Zelensky Meeting as “Embarrassing” and Shows Strong Support for Ukraine
Whoopi Goldberg has made her stance unmistakably clear following the controversial meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump on Friday. Her comments reflect a significant alignment with Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict, emphasizing the need for international solidarity against aggression.
During a discussion on the widely circulated video footage of the meeting aired on The View on Monday, Goldberg expressed her unwavering support for Zelenskyy. She described the display from both Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House as “embarrassing,” highlighting the gravity of the situation and the expectations of global leaders in times of crisis.
“I stand firmly with you, Zelenskyy, because you and your nation have been fighting valiantly,” Goldberg stated passionately. “I support you all, as many countries around the world have a troubling history of invading and dominating others. For over a century, we have collectively condemned such actions. We must reflect on who we are and what we stand for in light of this.”
Goldberg sharply criticized Trump for attempting to portray himself as “the tough guy,” adding that she found the Oval Office meeting unsettling. During this encounter, Trump and Vance appeared to shift their stance from endorsing Ukraine to siding with Russia, a move that co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin also found alarming, underscoring the need for consistency in American foreign policy.

“I’ll never truly understand—having been on Air Force One with Trump and visited Mar-a-Lago—was it worth it to sacrifice everything you stand for? To betray your own principles?” Griffin remarked, emphasizing that a significant majority of Americans, about 62%, support Ukraine, while Trump and Vance represent a minority view that contradicts public sentiment.
Ana Navarro also expressed her disapproval of the meeting, particularly criticizing Trump and his allies for their comments regarding Zelenskyy’s choice of attire during the Oval Office visit.
“He is wearing what he represents: the suffering of his people, the reality of a war-torn country, where over 100 hospitals have been obliterated,” she stated. “More than 700 schools have been destroyed, and over 100 churches have been reduced to rubble.”
Navarro also referenced a significant historical figure who, like Zelenskyy, chose not to wear a suit during a visit to the White House: Winston Churchill.
“Well, who else showed up during a war dressed in uniform during World War II? Winston Churchill…and nobody commented on that,” she noted, drawing parallels to emphasize the importance of context in such situations.

Navarro also directed her criticism towards several other Republicans present during the meeting.
“I want to address Lindsey Graham, whom I’ve known for years, and Marco Rubio, who I’ve known for 30 years. I feel an immense sense of embarrassment and shame. Marco has dedicated his life and career to opposing tyranny, condemning Putin’s influence in Latin America, and to witness him sell out his convictions to follow Donald Trump is disheartening,” she stated with palpable frustration.
“It was a disgrace. I agree with you, Ana; this seemed orchestrated, as former UN Ambassador Susan Rice mentioned on MSNBC. There’s no doubt this was a setup, as a vice president typically doesn’t speak out of turn without the president’s approval,” host Sunny Hostin remarked, suggesting that Trump was aware of Vance’s comments beforehand.
She elaborated, “The moment truly shifted when Zelenskyy, with his bravery, confronted JD Vance, asking, ‘Have you ever been to Ukraine?’ He shamed the bully, and what happens when you humiliate a bully? They throw a tantrum… Their aim was to embolden Putin, and they succeeded.”

Goldberg re-engaged in the conversation with a powerful message for viewers at home: “Here’s what everyone can do: if you support Ukraine, voice it. Speak out loud.” She emphasized the importance of public support in influencing the ongoing conflict.
“This is what will help change the tide. It’s up to us. We need to be vocal. Media outlets must also raise their voices, even at the risk of legal repercussions, to unveil the truth—call it out! Because if you don’t, it appears as though you are aligning with them,” she stressed, urging collective action and responsibility.
