When a group of 20-somethings shows up at a remote mansion for a party, chaos ensues as the evening turns into a game of lies and suspicion. The movie Bodies Bodies Bodies took the blueprint of Agatha Christie‘s seminal murder mystery “And Then There Were None” and turned it into a biting critique of Gen Z, with dark humor, scares, and a stacked cast of up-and-comers. The film opened to critical acclaim a couple of years ago and did fairly well at the box office. However, it truly found its audience when it landed on streaming. Those who haven’t yet checked Bodies Bodies Bodies out are running out of time, as it’ll leave its streaming home in a matter of weeks.
Directed by Halina Reijn and featuring Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Rachel Sennott, Chase Sui Wonders, Pete Davidson, and Lee Pace, the film opened in limited release in 2022, delivering the second-best per-theater average of the year, behind only Everything Everywhere All at Once. It eventually grossed just under $15 million against a reported budget of $3 million and earned excellent reviews. Bodies Bodies Bodies is now sitting at a “certified fresh” 86% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics’ consensus reads, “Impeccably cast and smartly written, Bodies Bodies Bodies is an uncommonly well-done whodunit.” The film arrived amid a new wave of locked-room murder-mysteries, fueled by the box office success of Kenneth Branagh‘s Murder on the Orient Express in 2017 and Rian Johnson‘s Knives Out in 2019.
‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Is Leaving Netflix Soon
This was followed by a string of pandemic-era projects that capitalized on logistical restrictions. During this period, shows such as Apple’s The Afterparty, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, Prime Video’s Nine Perfect Strangers, FX’s A Murder at the End of the World, and two further Knives Out sequels kept the ball rolling for murder-mysteries. Bodies Bodies Bodies is the perfect companion piece to the recent Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which continued the exploits of detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig. Still dominating the Netflix charts, the film opened to excellent reviews and is now sitting at a “certified fresh” 92% critics’ score and a “verified hot” 94% audience score on RT.
You can watch Knives Out 3 on Netflix, but you only have until January 24 to check Bodies Bodies Bodies out on the same service. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
