There are some significant changes happening behind the scenes of NCIS: Origins.

Days after it was announced that the NCIS spinoff series had been renewed for a third season, it was revealed on Wednesday (January 28) that co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal will be departing at the end of the current season.

Keep reading to find out more…According to Deadline, Gina is leaving the show to focus on new projects. Fellow co-showrunner David J. North will remain and take on the role of sole showrunner for season three.

“It’s been the biggest honor of my career to write NCIS: Origins alongside my incredible co-showrunner and friend David North,” Gina shared in a statement. “I want to thank Amy Reisenbach, David Stapf, and everyone at CBS Network and Studio for their support. To have had this opportunity to work again with the incomparable Mark Harmon, Sean Harmon, our writers, and the best cast and crew in the business — how lucky am I? I can’t wait to see what this extraordinary group creates for Season 3.”

This marks the second time that Gina will be leaving the NCIS universe. She served as a writer-producer on the original NCIS show for 10 years before exiting in 2021 to pursue other projects and became a writer/co-executive producer on Hulu’s Paradise season one and Netflix’s Griselda. She then returned to CBS to work on NCIS: Origins, which premiered in October 2024.
