Neck Cream Necessity Explained by Beverly Hills Dermatologist

Key Insights

  • Aging signs: The neck often shows signs of aging faster due to thinner skin and fewer oil glands.
  • Product necessity: A separate neck cream may not be necessary for everyone.
  • Consistent care: It’s important to treat the neck and décolletage with the same care as the face.
  • Expert advice: Dr. Mariana Vergara recommends using the same cream for both face and neck.

You’re not losing it. Your neck might really look older than your face. We’re always focusing our most powerful products and devices on our faces, getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles there, but what about the neck? Do we really need a separate product just for our necklines and décolletage?

We tapped Beverly Hills–based cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Mariana Vergara to help us get to the bottom of all our neckline-related skincare questions. She’s beloved by celeb clients for her work in minimally invasive rejuvenation, laser technology, and facial aesthetics.

The neck often shows signs of aging faster since the skin is thinner, it has fewer oil glands, and less structural support. It produces less collagen and is more vulnerable to dehydration and a crepey texture over time,” Dr. Vergara told E! News.

Sure, it might be beneficial for you to get a neck cream if you’re particularly worried about the look of your neckline and collarbones, but Dr. Vergara reassured us it’s not really necessary.

“I don’t think most people need a different cream for their neck. The same cream that is used on the face can be usually extended to the neck and décolletage,” she said. “The key is to be consistent and always take care of the neck like it were the face. Don’t neglect your neck and chest during your morning and evening skincare regimen!”
