Spin Doctors have excitingly revealed their first album in over a decade, titled Face Full of Cake. To give fans a taste of what to expect, they have released a captivating video for the lead single “Still a Gorilla,” which can be viewed below. This marks a significant return for the band, showcasing their evolution while staying true to their roots.
Scheduled for release on April 11, this highly anticipated LP features a collaboration between vocalist Chris Barron, guitarist Eric Schenkman, and drummer Aaron Comess, alongside Jack Daley, who stepped in as the new bassist following the departure of longtime member Mark White in 2021. The album was crafted in Daley’s studio located in Asbury Park, with some tracks originating from the early days of the pandemic, reflecting a period of introspection and creativity.
Further writing sessions took place in a studio owned by Phish‘s Mike Gordon in Vermont, where the band members exchanged ideas and musical concepts. Schenkman and Barron dedicated time to collaborate separately, enhancing their creative synergy. By the time they reunited in Asbury Park to begin recording, the atmosphere was relaxed and free of pressure, as Comess highlighted in an official statement, allowing their creative energies to flow naturally.

“We approached this project without the intense pressure of it being a record,” Comess shared. “Over our 35-year journey, we’ve experienced various phases; sometimes the music comes together seamlessly, while other times it’s a struggle. With this album, we managed to capture a moment where everything felt effortless, resulting in a fresh energy radiating through the tracks, as if we were rediscovering the songs in real-time as we played them.”

Barron assures fans that this seventh studio album will resonate deeply with those who cherished Spin Doctors’ iconic ’90s hits like “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” and “Two Princes,” both of which soared into the Top 20. He expressed confidence that longtime fans will be “knocked out by this new record,” emphasizing its blend of nostalgic elements from Pocket Full of Kryptonite infused with the wisdom and depth gained from years of experience within the music industry.
Face Full of Cake also marks a new chapter for the band as their debut album under Capitol Records. To celebrate this significant milestone, Spin Doctors will host a special release event on April 12 at Brooklyn Bowl in New York, followed by an extensive tour throughout 2025, offering fans numerous opportunities to experience their electrifying live performances.
