LaPlante and Stringer candidly reflected on the unusual experience of crafting their debut album, Eternal Blue, remotely via Zoom during the global pandemic, a period that brought unique challenges to artists everywhere.

In stark contrast, the atmosphere surrounding Tsunami Sea feels refreshingly different and invigorating.

“It feels wonderful to have a more conventional rollout,” Stringer acknowledged, highlighting the positive shift in their creative process.

“With Eternal Blue, we were essentially improvising,” he added, emphasizing the spontaneous nature of their first project.

LaPlante wholeheartedly agreed, emphasizing how Tsunami Sea represents a significant evolution for Spiritbox.

“There’s a sense of calm when you feel more in control,” she remarked. “Instead of being swept away by the currents of the world during the lockdown, we are now at the helm, steering our own ship.” This newfound control has allowed them to express their artistic vision more freely.

In many respects, Tsunami Sea symbolizes a fresh beginning for the band.

“That album is a reflection of a specific moment in time,” Stringer explained regarding Eternal Blue.

“Once it’s out there, it belongs to the world… Even though we had the luxury of time with Eternal Blue due to the circumstances, there was immense pressure to deliver because so much was riding on its success.”

Stringer mentioned that the pressure they felt with Eternal Blue stemmed from it being their debut full-length album. Although they still experience pressure regarding Tsunami Sea, the nature of that pressure has changed.

“Now, you’ve earned your place and the opportunity to take your time, ensuring that this is the finest body of work possible,” he added, emphasizing their commitment to quality and artistic integrity.
