Don Felder is set to unveil his fourth solo album, The Vault – 50 Years of Music, on May 23, a milestone that marks a significant chapter in his illustrious career. The highly anticipated first single, “Free at Last,” is available for listeners to enjoy below. This album, his debut with the Frontiers label, not only encapsulates his rich musical journey but also offers a fresh perspective. “I have, I’d say, hundreds of ideas….going back into the ’70s. For every Eagles song, I would write and record 15 to 17 song ideas,” Felder shared with UCR. He reminisces about how tracks like “Hotel California,” “Those Shoes,” and “Victim of Love” emerged from his prolific writing sessions, underscoring his commitment to creativity.
By revisiting and listening to some of his older demos, Felder discovered what he describes as “magical gems” that he has re-recorded and reproduced for this project. He has also penned several new songs to accompany these revived classics. “The recordings came out amazing, and I’m really excited about it,” he explains, showcasing his enthusiasm for blending nostalgia with innovation. This album promises to be a treasure trove for fans, reflecting both his past achievements and new artistic expressions.
Describing “Free at Last,” Felder notes it serves as “a heartfelt tribute to the freedom that awaits us beyond this life.” The song encapsulates the profound theme of releasing the burdens of earthly existence and finding solace in the belief that ultimate liberation is within reach. It’s a poignant reminder of the peace that lies ahead, resonating deeply with listeners seeking hope and freedom.
