New Music Friday: Big Sean, Freddie Gibbs, DJ Paul & The Cool Kids

Key Takeaways

  • New Releases: This week features exciting new tracks from various artists despite the absence of major album drops.
  • Collaborations: Freddie Gibbs and DJ Paul reunite for a powerful anthem, showcasing their chemistry.
  • Remixes: Juvenile and Megan Thee Stallion bring fresh energy to the remix of “B.B.B.”
  • Classic Reissues: The Cool Kids celebrate their mixtape with a special reissue, appealing to nostalgic fans.

There may be no new major hip-hop album this week like previous weeks (see: J. Cole The Fall-Off, A$AP Rocky Don’t Be Dumb, Baby Keem Ca$ino), but there’s no shortage of new raps that deserve your attention.

Big Sean blesses us with a short but sweet “Made In Detroit Freestyle” for Red Bull Music, which finds him spitting 60 seconds’ worth of braggadocious bars over a smooth Jake One beat.

After linking up on “PYS” back in 2022, Freddie Gibbs and Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul reunite for a hair-raising fuck-around-and-find-out anthem, while Yeat joins forces with UK sensation (and fellow ski mask aficionado) EsDeeKid for what’s sure to be a Gen Z hit.

Elsewhere, Juvenile and Megan Thee Stallion get asses shakin’ on the official remix to “B.B.B.” and Gnarls Barkley (aka CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse) return with their first new song in 18 years, “Pictures,” the lead single from their upcoming album Atlanta (out March 6).

There are still a handful of projects worth checking out this week, though. The Cool Kids have reissued their classic blog era mixtape Gone Fishing with the help of Don Cannon, Gorillaz round up rap royalty (Black Thought, Yasiin Bey and De La Soul’s Trugoy) on their eclectic new album The Mountain , and DJ/producer Chase B drops his debut LP Be Very Afraid (Vol. 1) featuring heavy-hitters like Travis Scott, Big Sean and Don Toliver.
