New Music from The Rolling Stones Confirmed by Andrew Watt

Producer Andrew Watt cannot provide specific details, but he confirms that the Rolling Stones are currently working on new music.

“I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s like working for Batman,” he recently stated to Rolling Stone. “When the tongue is up in the air, you just go…I can say we did some recording together, but that’s all I can say.”

It remains uncertain whether this music will culminate in a full studio album. Watt has previously shared that the band had an abundance of material to choose from when creating 2023’s Hackney Diamonds. (Their last original album prior to that was 2005’s A Bigger Bang.)

“It was a prolific time for the band,” Watt told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “They had accumulated about 18 years of material. There was so much to sift through initially, and then new songs emerged as everyone was energized and inspired.”

Additional Insights from Keith Richards’ Son

However, don’t just take Watt’s word for it — Keith Richards’ son Marlon also confirmed that the Stones are working on something in an interview with Record Collector published earlier this month.

“They’re in town right now, recording,” he said (via NME). “They’re in Chiswick [West London] or somewhere like that; I think they’re almost finished. They still keep these crazy hours: after lunch until about two in the morning. I’d rather be somewhere else at that time! Unless you’re involved, it’s quite dull.”

Like Watt, Richards was uncertain about what the new material will ultimately become.

“I suppose an album – they have enough leftover from the last one,” he said. “They received a Grammy, so now they’re all excited: ‘Oh, yeah – we can do another one like that! We’ve got more like that if you want…’ I think they’re working on the follow-up.”
