Next 007 Actor Betting Sparks Skepticism Among James Bond Fans

Many are betting on who will be the new James Bond, as the next 007 movie is already on its way from Amazon MGM Studios. Several stars are rumored to be in the running, and the pool of potential actors for the role is quite different than what it was only a few years ago. While there hasn’t been too much information on the upcoming James Bond film, it will be written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and directed by Denis Villeneuve, who is best known for Dune and Blade Runner 2049. Here’s who currently has the best chance of following Daniel Craig as MI6’s top secret agent.

People are betting on Callum Turner as the next James Bond

People believe Callum Turner will be named the next James Bond, based on the results of several prediction markets (as of March 17, 2026).

On Kalshi, Callum Turner has 50% of the betting spread, though there are many other actors that are still in the hunt: Josh O’Conner (20%), Jacob Elordi (17%), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (9%), and Harris Dickinson (5%). Several frontrunners that would have been at the top of the polls a couple of years ago include Idris Elba (5%) and Henry Cavill (2%).

A similar bet on Polymarket has placed Callum Turner at the top as well at 31%. Interestingly, the top vote of “No Bond chosen” is at 54%, though that’s mainly a result of the bet being closed on June 30; in other words, the majority of the voters believe that the new James Bond actor will not be confirmed within the next three months. This is understandable given that Villeneuve might be too busy finishing Dune: Part III, which is slated to release on December 18, to advance the production of the upcoming 007 film that far. At any rate, the other actors on the list received a relatively low percentage of the bet: Jacob Elordi (4%), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (3%), Henry Cavill (2%), and Robert James-Collier (2%).

According to a report by The Sun on March 13, Coral — a chain of betting shops in the United Kingdom — has Callum Turner in the lead as well at 4-5, Aaron Taylor-Johnson at 3-1, Theo James at 3-1, Henry Cavill at 6-1, and Jack O’Connell at 8-1 (who surged in the polls).

As for Turner himself, the Fantastic Beasts actor was tight-lipped on his thoughts about who the next James Bond would be. When asked during an interview at the Berlin International Film Festival, Turner said it was “very early” to answer, effectively declining to respond to the question, though this hinted that he was possibly having talks with Amazon MGM Studios behind the scenes.

However, a report near the end of January stated that Jacob Elordi already had meetings with Villeneuve and producers for the movie. Elordi was most recently nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2026 Academy Awards for his performance in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which would place him closer to the top of the list.

Furthermore, another report from World of Reel confirmed that Turner and Elordi were the top two actors up for the role but admits that Turner isn’t as clear of a frontrunner as it was being reported, noting that Elordi is very much still in the mix.

The main reason why people don’t think Cavill, Taylor-Johnson, and Elba have a good shot at being the new 007 comes from a June 2025 report from <b Variety. It explains that Amazon MGM Studios is primarily looking for a “British actor under the age of 30,” which would put these three actors out of contention. That said, at that time Amazon supposedly had Tom Holland and Harris Dickinson on its wishlist too, so the pool of options has very much changed since then.
