Currently, the The Legend of Zelda scene is quite calm. Nintendo has yet to announce a new core entry to follow up Tears of the Kingdom, and there hasn’t been a spinoff since Age of Imprisonment.
In light of this, fans have been crafting their own interpretations, and one such creation is receiving significant criticism on X.
Zelda Fans Expect Better Than Whatever This Is
Link To The No
In response to an X user sharing an AI-generated image depicting what a next-gen Zelda might look like, fans have been relentlessly mocking this generic interpretation. As one fan noted on Twitter: “A lot of hilarious details here, but my favorite is that the X button is apparently used to press the A button.”
“This screenshot features all of my favorite things from Zelda: – Jumping using the Jump button on the controller – Collecting coins like in Mario, my favorite Zelda,” another user humorously remarked. “My personal fav is using the D and O buttons to conduct with the Sounding Rod,” another user pointed out.
Another fan expressed a willingness to accept similar visuals, but only to a degree: “I don’t think anyone would mind a Zelda game with graphics similar to this. I just think most people would prefer it was made by people and not AI. That way we won’t end up with Link having the hilt of his sword on the front of his body and the blade on his back.”
Even the designs are flawed, with Link depicted with human ears and structures that lack coherence. One user even commented: “Like…. no triforce on the hylian shield, nonsensical map, Great Deku Tree with no face, no art direction, random Ocarina notes on the bottom left, houses that don’t make any sense, and generic ‘realistic’ greenery. Nothing about this looks good.”
What Can We Expect From Zelda’s Switch 2 Debut?
It Should Make A Splash
No matter how the “next” Zelda turns out, it will undoubtedly look better than this mockup. Nintendo has consistently excelled with the Zelda series in both 2D and 3D formats, especially with mainline entries. If the next reveal is merely another sequel to Breath of the Wild, it may not be well-received. Instead, Nintendo will likely strive to impress audiences with a distinct art style, as is typical for many mainline games.
What The Legend of Zelda fans desire does not always align with Nintendo’s plans. Once the reveal finally occurs, it will likely be scrutinized and debated for weeks until more information becomes available.
