Nicholas Brendon Dead: Reactions from Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast

The residents of Sunnydale are coming together in mourning.

The cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer spoke out following the tragic death of Nicholas Brendon at age 54, mourning the actor who played Xander Harris on the show from 1997 to 2003.

“My Sweet Nicky, thank you for years of laughter, love and Dodgers,” Alyson Hannigan wrote on Instagram March 20. “I will think of you every time I see a rocking chair. I love you. RIP.”

Meanwhile, Emma Caulfield—who portrayed Xander’s on-and-off love interest Anya Jenkins—wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, “Rest Nicky. Rest. I love you.”

“My heart is heavy,” she added on Instagram Stories, per a screenshot published by Deadline. “I can’t put into words just how this has hit me.”

In addition to Alyson and Emma, Brendon starred in the series alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar, Anthony Head, James Marsters, and the late Michelle Trachtenberg, who died in February 2025 due to complications from diabetes.
