Nick Mangold Dead at 41: Jets Star Passes After Kidney Request

New York Jets Star Dies 2 Weeks After Sharing Kidney Transplant Request

Legendary New York Jets football player Nick Mangold has died at the age of 41.

This tragic news comes just weeks after the official Jets Instagram published a letter he wrote, letting fans know he needed a kidney transplant.

“In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease. I’m undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant. I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time,” he wrote. He requested anyone with type O blood who was willing to donate to get in touch.

Jets owner Woody Johnson said, “Nick was more than a legendary center. He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football. Off the field, Nick’s wit, warmth, and unwavering loyalty made him a cherished member of our extended Jets family.”

Nick played Center in his 11 year career with the Jets.

Our thoughts are with Nick‘s friends, family, and loved ones during this time. RIP.
