Nightingale: Dakota and Elle Fanning’s First Film Together

Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning are gearing up for their most exciting reunion to date.

The renowned star of Uptown Girls, Dakota, alongside the talented actress from The Great, Elle, are poised to elevate their sisterly bond by embarking on a new adventure: performing together in a feature film.

“For the very first time, sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning are set to share the screen in a film,” announced Sony Pictures on July 22 through a collaborative Instagram post featuring the sisters. “This exciting project is an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s international literary sensation The Nightingale.”

Both Dakota, aged 31, and Elle, aged 27, will not only star in this eagerly awaited film but will also take on the role of producers through their production company, Lewellen Pictures. They will collaborate with Hello Sunshine, the acclaimed production company founded by the talented Reese Witherspoon, as well as The Cantillon Company. Notably, Reese selected this internationally best-selling novel, which intricately weaves the story of two sisters navigating France during World War II, as part of her Reese’s Book Club in 2023.

The film is set to be released by TriStar Pictures, with a premiere date currently slated for February 2027, generating immense anticipation among fans and movie enthusiasts alike.

Although the Fanning sisters previously appeared in the 2001 film I Am Sam, their on-screen interaction was limited; Elle portrayed a younger version of Dakota’s character, Lucy, and they did not share scenes together. Thus, The Nightingale will mark their inaugural experience performing alongside each other, a moment fans have long awaited.
