“He was with a friend and inquired, ‘Who is that person?’ Shortly after our initial encounter, a mutual friend introduced us because we shared common philanthropic aspirations. We collaborated in similar domains, which allowed us to remain close friends for many years,” Nikki recounted during her engaging discussion at the convention.

Throughout those formative years, Ian was in a relationship with his co-star Nina Dobrev, while Nikki was married to American Idol finalist Paul McDonald. She revealed that a pivotal conversation regarding her divorce from Paul in 2014 ultimately paved the way for her budding romance with Ian.

At the convention, she reminisced, “We were spending time together one day when he asked, ‘How’s Paul?’ I responded, ‘Oh, he’s fantastic! We got divorced, but he’s doing well, and we still collaborate on music.’ Then he suggested, ‘Do you have time for dinner?’”
