“No Place Like Home” is Elphaba’s new song in Wicked: For Good, and Cynthia Erivo has discussed the meaning of the track.
The song references The Wizard of Oz, incorporating the words that Dorothy repeats throughout the movie.
Elphaba performs the song early in the film while attempting to persuade the animals of Oz to stay and fight alongside her instead of retreating to No Man’s Land.

“She has to question why she wants to continue to save Oz, or save the animals in it, even though this place doesn’t necessarily want her,” Cynthia told Empire. “It is a discovery as to why she can continue. That is where the story begins for her.”
She added, “I was really aware that if the words ‘no place like home’ are in her mouth, they have to mean something. It has to be really special.”
Elphaba starts the song with, “Why do I love this place / That’s never loved me? / A place that seems to be devolving / And even wanting to? / But Oz is more than just a place / It’s a promise, an idea / And I want to help make it come true.”
