Nu-Metal Band from the 2000s Hints at Comeback with Posts

The nu-metal band Skrape from the early 2000s seems to be the latest group to take advantage of the genre’s resurgence.

The Florida-based band, which released its last album in 2004, has created a new Instagram account, Facebook page, and website.

All three platforms shared a video showcasing the band’s name glitching in various colors accompanied by eerie background music, indicating that Skrape is set to make a comeback.

A Brief History of Skrape

Skrape was formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1997 and quickly garnered a significant local following. They signed with RCA Records in 1999 and released their debut album, New Killer America, in March 2001. The album sold around 100,000 copies and peaked at No. 157 on the Billboard 200.

The band extensively toured to promote New Killer America, supporting metal legends like Pantera and Slayer. They released their second and final album, Up the Dose, in 2004. Unfortunately, the album did not perform well commercially, leading to Skrape being dropped from their label and ultimately disbanding shortly after.

Skrape: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in Nu-Metal Clothing

While Skrape is often linked with the nu-metal genre, keyboardist Brian Milner stated that they viewed themselves primarily as a straightforward rock ’n’ roll band.

“There’s a new generation of kids,” Milner shared with Pause & Play in 2001. “The whole depressing Pearl Jam era is over. It’s time to start having fun again. We’re rocking hard and trying to have fun at the same time. That’s what that means.”

He continued: “Our music is aggressive, but generally we enjoy playing it and we don’t go around feeling down all the time. We just do what we do. We play rock ‘n’ roll.”
