Scream and Ready or Not producer James Vanderbilt is collaborating with acclaimed actors Russell Crowe (Gladiator, The Pope’s Exorcist), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody, Mr. Robot), and Michael Shannon (Midnight Special, Take Shelter) to bring to life Nuremberg, a gripping historical drama set against the backdrop of post-war Germany. This compelling project, organized by Bluestone Entertainment and Walden Media, draws inspiration from Jack El Hai‘s insightful book, The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. Today, Sony Pictures Classics is excited to unveil the trailer for Nuremberg, which delves into the depths of darkness during one of history’s most tumultuous periods.
Nuremberg “centers on American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (played by Malek), who is assigned the critical task of evaluating whether Nazi defendants are mentally fit to stand trial for their heinous war crimes. During this process, Kelley engages in a complex psychological showdown with Hermann Göring (portrayed by Crowe), who was one of Hitler’s closest associates.”
The newly released trailer for Nuremberg showcases Crowe’s portrayal of Hermann Göring as he prepares for a trial that will uncover the depths of his involvement in unspeakable atrocities. Rami Malek’s Douglas Kelley asserts his unique understanding of Göring, suggesting that the legal system is ill-equipped for the monumental case approaching. As the world braces for Göring’s defense, the prosecution teams work tirelessly to gather incriminating evidence, determined to secure a conviction that will resonate throughout history.
“It is an incredible honor to collaborate with such a remarkably talented ensemble of actors,” Vanderbilt expressed to Deadline in 2023 when Walden officially announced the project. “Our partners at Bluestone and Walden have provided tremendous support, and I eagerly anticipate bringing this powerful true story to the big screen.”
“Walden is excited to assist in realizing James Vanderbilt‘s vision, which courageously tackles the pursuit of justice in the aftermath of World War II,” remarked Ben Tappan, the President of Production at the book publisher. “This extraordinary historical moment, depicted through the lens of our remarkable cast, is a captivating narrative that is bound to resonate with contemporary audiences.”
Alongside Crowe and Malek, the cast includes Richard E. Grant as Sir David Maxwell-Fyfe, Michael Shannon as Robert H. Jackson, Leo Woodall as Sgt. Howie Triest, Colin Hanks as Dr. Gustav Gilbert, John Slattery as Colonel Burton C. Andrus, and Wrenn Schmidt as Elsie.
